About our band....
Founded in 1980 by Doug Johnson and the Racine Unified School district, Lighthouse Brigade has been encouraging students to pursue their passion of music for over 40 years. In 2000 Rex Rukavina began his tenure as director of the program. He further developed the program and taught countless students over his 20 years. One of them, Laura Shapovalov took over Lighthouse Brigade in 2020 and began shaping it for a new future. Featuring musicians across RUSD director Shapovalov has reinvigorated the program and is excited to see where the next 20 years takes us.
